Wark was born to her father, Jimmy Wark, a solicitor, and her mother, Roberta Wark, a school teacher, in Dumfries, Scotland. She replaced David Baddiel in 2008 as host of the BBC Four programme The Book Quiz and hosted a BBC Two quiz show, A Question of Genius, which aired from 2009 to 2010.
